You know the drill. You get to work bleary eyed, say a few half-hearted hellos and then reach for the coffee — all before you’ve even typed your first email.
Maybe (definitely) we’re biased, but coffee might just be the life force of the workplace. Besides helping employees wake up and stay productive, coffee brings people together. It’s the necessary accessory for meetings and the wingman for work stories. And coffee machines – well, they’re the new water coolers.
With scary financial times ahead, businesses of all sizes are understandably trying to cut costs, and perks (like coffee for the office) are in the firing line in a movement that’s been dubbed the “perk-cession”. So why should businesses think twice before cutting off the good stuff? With pay increases likely to be put on hold, small gestures can help make staff feel valued, while removing perks that are already in place can decrease morale – particularly when people are already concerned about job security.
Prioritising wellbeing in the workplace is incredibly important, particularly when there are limits to how much staff can be financially rewarded. Ensuring the workplace is a welcoming environment may have a bigger impact than you know. When people were forced to work at home throughout the pandemic, there were many reports of increased mental wellbeing. With people saving time commuting and avoiding pointless meetings, they had more time for themselves. However, this article by the BBC shows a different side to the coin where working from home too often can lead to feelings of isolation and loneliness, as well as guilt and heightened anxiety – particularly in millennials.
Our opinion? Working from home has its pros and cons, which come down to the individual at the end of the day. But if you’re going to have an office, it’s important to foster a good culture and make people want to be there. We truly believe that little perks (particularly good coffee) can help with that. Take it from us!
The good news is, perks don’t have to cost the earth. Workplaces can get wholesale pricing on loads of supplies by going direct – including our coffee. We don’t have any minimum order quantities either or any set contracts. And if you’re in the market for a coffee machine, we can help with that too. We’ll even train your staff to use it – there’s a barista in everyone!
