If you're travelling this summer, you're gonna want to know where the good coffee spots are. Lucky for you, we know a few! You'll find a whole bunch right here by filtering the search at the bottom of the page to your location. Or read on for some new openings, or hard to find spots, that might fit into your itinerary.

Lake-living in Taupō?
Pay Abhinav and Anshika of Café Lacus a visit. These guys have just opened their doors and are serving up delicious food and Kōkako coffee in a brand new spot called The Landing. They're neighbours with a tenpin bowling lane, a trampoline park, a Ninja course, arcade and an indoor playground — the perfect spot for a energy-filled family when the weather isn't playing ball. Lacus means lake in Latin.

Our pick is to try the Nitro Cold Brew on tap!

Café Lacus
650 Lake Terrace, Wharewaka, Taupō
Mon—Sun: 7am–4pm

Beach-bumming in Whangamatā?
After 20 years of running top fine dining restaurant, The French Café, Simon and Creghan Wright travelled a new road this May, opening Gather & Roam. Now their team are all set for their first summer. Swing by to taste their incredible food, made with fresh, locally-sourced ingredients.

They serve our Mahana blend through their La Marzocco machine and you'll find them at 121 Lindsay Road from Wednesday through Saturday.

Gather and Roam
121 Lindsay Road, Whangamatā
Wed—Sat: 8am–2.30pm

Mountain-dwelling in Methven?
If you're getting some of that fresh mountain air in Methven, stop by The Alpine Grind for wholefood meals, snacks and tasty coffee — dine in or takeaway. Run by super group Hannah, her partner Brenton, his sister Brooke and friend George and his partner Jess. This spot feels like visiting friends!

The Alpine Grind
121 Main Street, Methven

Mon—Fri: 6am–2 pm Sat—Sun: 7am–2pm

Some spots that might surprise you...

  • Toast-a-top coffee caravan in Greytown is perfect if you're travelling with a caravan on the back or are manouvering a campervan through these parts. Pull in to this pitstop for a top-notch coffee and toastie. You'll find them next to the Honda store on State Highway 2 (heading North)
  • Mahia Service Centre fill up your tank and you cup while you enjoy the east coast.
  • Inlets Surf in Kaitaia has your threads and your coffee covered. Grab a brew while you peruse their surf and skate apparel.

Heading somewhere else this summer? No worries! Find a Kōkako outpost near you.

Safe travels! Enjoy the sunshine and the good times.
