After 10 years in London, Rob and his family made the big call to return home to Aotearoa to be closer to family — and we were lucky to nab him for our team not long after they arrived. Rob has so far spent most of his days leaping around our Mt Eden roastery improving workflows for the team, and boosting morale with his keen attitude. We asked him a few quick questions to help get to know him a little better.
What is your first coffee-related memory?
Black instant coffee after a few drinks the night before to keep me alive the following day. I think it was Nescafe (GOLD) haha.
How long have you been with Kōkako and how would you describe what you do? 4th week with the team and going great. My role is to help streamline and improve operation processes for growth.
What makes a good workmate?
A 'Hakuna Matata' attitude (and we can attest to the fact that Rob has this in droves!)
What hobby would you like to take up?
Flying airplanes, real ones.
Can you draw us a kite your son would love to fly?
What do your favourite socks look like?
Pure white (proof on that below)
Favourite kid's book?
Where's Spot
You're new to the coffee industry, could you tell us a little about what you did before joining the team?
I have always been a part of supply chain operations in some shape. Previously I worked with a wine packaging wholesaler that supplied wine packaging, wicker hampers and fabric tote bags. My role was varied which included systems implementation, process organisation, team collabs and landed as the Ops Manager.
Best spot in Aotearoa for holidaying?
Opononi
What's London's best kept secret? And what's special to you about the city?
The incredible food markets. They are everywhere. It's crazy. Freedom to be whoever you want and the festivals. Love 'em.
What can we find you doing when you're not at work?
Chilling with my fam and I'm always on the hunt for new food and holiday spots.
If you could live in another city, which would it be?
Singapore for sure. Love it.
Most memorable song from your childhood?
Tupac — California Love. I was 10 when that song came out. Mad.
How do you like your coffee? I'm usually down for a piccolo
And when you're not drinking coffee, what's your drink of choice? Nice warm jasmine tea.
