Introducing our younger sibling, Everybird
The bird’s out of the bag — we’ve just welcomed a younger sibling to the Kōkako family. World, meet Everybird, a new coffee brand that you’ll find on the shelves of your local supermarket in the not too distant future.
After celebrating 20 years in biz and navigating several years of a pandemic, it’s time for us to try something new — something that challenges us and provides some security in an uncertain world. Everything has changed in the last few years, the way we work, the way we socialise, the way we shop. Supermarkets are fast changing too; had we known the world would change so much in March 2020 we might have had Everybird up our sleeve earlier. (Hindsight is a wonderful thing!)
Being a coffee roaster that predominantly supplies cafés is our passion but it’s also made us realise how open we are as a business to the challenging impacts of lockdowns and alert levels.
Everybird is our new dedicated supermarket specialty coffee – it’s the one you’ll find when you can’t get Kōkako at your local café or you run out suddenly at home. It’s an at-home specialty coffee that you can grab from your local supermarket or Four Square, or in cities and towns where Kōkako hasn’t made it to the nest just yet — here’s looking at you, Christchurch!
Everybird has launched with two blends — Everyday and Half-Caf. The Everyday Blend is a crowd-pleaser; it’s bold, a bit chocolatey, a bit biscuity, suited to all brew methods and is just as delicious black as it is with milk or mylk.
Half-Caf is the coffee you buy when you want all the flavour, but not all the caffeine. It’s made with 50% full strength Everyday Blend, and 50% Swiss Water® Decaf (decaffeinated in Canada using only time, temperature and water). It’s for those who want a little more jive and a little less jitterbug — a little oomph, but not too much. Now you’ll be able to enjoy coffee all day and into the afternoon, without staying up all night.
Both blends have a RRP of $10.99 and are available as whole beans, plunger and espresso. If you can’t find it at your supermarket, you can grab a bag or two to try at everybird.co.nz (thanks Harry)— then have a friendly word to your local grocery manager about stocking it!
20 years is a long time in business and we’re stoked to have Everybird to help keep Kōkako strong for another 20. Kōkako is still the home for single origins, our signature blends, brew gear and subscriptions. You can expect plenty more innovation from us this year too, and trust that we’re always tinkering on something new!

The more Fairtrade, organic, climate neutral coffee there is in the market, the better it is for the whole supply chain. Thank you for supporting our Kiwi-owned, sustainable coffee business — you legends!
